We want to be clear that this little guy does have a history of some bites. Romeo's not-so-highlights: marks indoors at times (though this has greatly subsided with his neuter) and will have accidents, HATES the rain, tendency to guard (and absolutely will bite when doing so if his guard is not honored - the human bed and his bed seem to be big triggers), slight food aggression which is EASILY handled in his foster home.
Romeo's highlights: pocket sized and portable - ready to travel on any and all adventures you have in life (he loves to go for rides in the car and even appreciates being able to slightly feel the wind in his beautifully long black locks), loves to dance for your attention, sleeps perfectly in his area (he is NOT allowed to sleep in beds with anyone because it will encourage the bad Romeo to come out to play), loves to talk to you and tell you all about his day (he actually prefers to sing it to you), ready and willing to learn obedience, walks GREAT on a leash and good with other dogs! He has even been through some limited training that we are willing to do with his new person so that he can continue to thrive in his new home. We cannot say enough how wonderful Romeo is - but in the wrong hands, he misbehaves in a big way! Romeo HAS to go to a home with a firm pack order in place and a savvy human leader of the pack that follows the fules that help Romeo thrive. Because of Romeo's tendency to guard his person, we are seeking a home with no children under the age of 12 years of age.
What we dream of for Romeo is a home that knows how to make this handsome boy confident and happier by providing him with structure in his home. Romeo LOVES to go on walks - he even prances proudly as he walks. So far he has tended to do GREAT with other dogs though we were warned that in the shelter he displayed some food aggression with other dogs (something easily handled by feeding Romeo separate from any other pets). Romeo also seems to fear physical retribution when he is doing something wrong therefore working with Romeo requires heavy praise when he is doing the right thing, and distraction when he is doing the wrong thing! In the right hands, Romeo will be "like butta" because he truly is SUCH a lovebug. He will tend to try to "guard" if he is not kept in good structure and is not told to honor boundaries.
Romeo loves fiercely when he loves - and sometimes that love is to a fault. We fear that much of his short life has been spent without many boundaries or rules.
Romeo is a very loving and complex little guy. So we want to tell you more about this little character. Now that Romeo's days of fathering puppies is officially behind him, he is seeking his forever landing pad. Romeo came from a shelter where he had been surrendered with a female chiweenie and their 2 puppies.
This isn't really surprising given his breed mix - I mean we should fully expect a "know-it-all with attitude for days" and there are times that Romeo fits that description to a "t"!
This little guy (and we do mean tiny) is much larger in attitude than he is stature. World meet Romeo! He is a dachshund-poodle-chihuahua mix (we are calling doxiepoohua) that is only 6 years young.
